열 두 번째 분량 들어갑니다.

 

Haylie: Tell him.

Phill: Tell me what?

Alex: Nothing.

Phill: Hey, what do we call daddy’s car, girls?

Haylie & Alex: The cone of trust.

Phill: The cone of trust. Exactramundo. Where you can speak your mind with no judgment. So, what is it? Boys? Your bodies are changing? Eggs?

Alex: No, No. We were just thinking that maybe…if you’re open to it…

Haylie: Dad, we love you but we do not want to go to family camp this year.

 

단어볼까요.

l  judgment : 판단

l  cone: 원뿔 (여기서는 인디언 천막 같은 형태가 원뿔 모양이라 어떤 좁은 장소 같은 의미로 cone을 쓴 것이 아닐까 싶네요. The cone of trust 라고 하면 ‘믿음의 장소’ 같은 식이니까 비밀 얘기도 할 수 있는 ‘비밀장소’로 의역 되었네요)

 

Haylie: Tell him. (말해)

Phill: Tell me what? (뭘?)

Alex: Nothing. (아무것도 아니에요)

Phill: Hey, what do we call daddy’s car, girls? (아빠 차를 뭐라고 부르지?)

Haylie & Alex: The cone of trust. (비밀의 장소요)

Phill: The cone of trust. Exactramundo. (바로 그거야) Where you can speak your mind with no judgment. (비난에 신경 쓰지 않고 마음껏 속마음을 얘기할 수 있는 곳) So, what is it? Boys? Your bodies are changing? Eggs? (뭔데? 남자? 사춘기 변화? 난자?)

>> Egg가 달걀이라는 뜻 뿐 만 아니라 ‘난자’라는 뜻도 있군요! 처음 알았어요 ^^;;

Alex: No, No. We were just thinking that maybe…if you’re open to it… (아니요! 저희는 그냥.. 아빠가 괜찮으시다면…)

Haylie: Dad, we love you but we do not want to go to family camp this year. (아빠, 우린 아빠를 사랑하지만 가족 캠프에 가기는 싫어요)

다음 13일차 분량입니다.

 

Haylie: Dad?

Alex:  Are you upset?

Phill: Nope.

Haylie: Than what was that sniff?

Phill: Sniff? What sniff? I’m… I’m, uh… I’m actually relieved. The day that I’ve been dreading, uh the day when you two finally outgrow me has finally arrived, and I’m handing it really well.

Haylie: Dad, are you crying?

Phill: Nope.

Alex: Are you sure you’re OK?

Phill: Yep.

Haylie: Oh, my god. He is crying.

Alex: I’ve never seen dad cry before.

Haylie: But dad if you cry then I’ll cry.

Phill: I’m not crying.

Alex: We made our daddy cry!

Phill: You called me daddy?

Haylie: Because you are our daddy!

Phill: I’ll always be your daddy!

 

단어 볼까요.짚어 드립니다. 역시 딸래미가 초딩 4학년 때 노트에 정리하면서 적어 둔 단어 기준으로 알려 드립니다.

l  sniff: 코를 벌름 거리다, 코 훌쩍이기,

l  relieved: (불쾌감/고통) 없애주다, 안도하게(후련하게) 하다

l  seen: see의 과거분사. See: 보다

 

한 문장씩 살펴 볼까요. 이번 회차 역시 특별히 어려운 부분은 없는 것 같네요.

Haylie: Dad? (아빠?)

Phill: Nope. (아니)

Haylie: Than what was that sniff? (그럼 훌쩍거린 건 뭐에요?)

Phill: Sniff? What sniff? I’m… I’m, uh… (뭐가 훌쩍거려? 난…) I’m actually relieved. (사실 난 다행이라고 생각했어) The day that I’ve been dreading, uh the day when you two finally outgrow me has finally arrived, and I’m handing it really well. (내가 두려워하던 너희들이 날 이기려는 그 날이 왔는데, 내가 아주 잘 감당하고 있으니까)

Haylie: Dad, are you crying? (아빠, 우시는 거에요?)

Phill: Nope. (아니)

Alex: Are you sure you’re OK? (정말 괜찮으신 거에요?)

Phill: Yep. (그래)

Haylie: Oh, my god. He is crying. (세상에, 아빠가 울어)

Alex: I’ve never seen dad cry before. (아빠가 우는 거 처음 봐)

Haylie: But dad if you cry then I’ll cry. (아빠가 울면 저도 울거에요!)

Phill: I’m not crying. (나 안 울어.)

Alex: We made our daddy cry! (우리가 아빠를 울게 만들었어!)

Phill: You called me daddy? (아빠라고 부르는거야?)

Haylie: Because you are our daddy! (아빠가 우리 아빠니까요!)

Phill: I’ll always be your daddy! (난 언제나 너희 아빠일거야)
